With 32 wins on the season, Anthony Espinosa is on the cusp of surpassing
the most wins ever by a 103 pound wrestler at Oviedo. That record is held
by Tyler Davis at 36 wins during the 2003-04 campaign. Davis went on to be
a State Champion and Fargo All-American in both Greco-roman and freestyle.
Tyler currently wrestles at the University of Wyoming.
-
Espinosa, Corey Ray, and Alton Meeks are all on track to crack the 40-win
mark as freshmen, and when they do so they will join the ranks of Jason
Robbins, Justin Fraga, and Kenny Lester (all State Champions and all Fargo
All-Americans) as the only freshmen in Oviedo history to reach that mark in
their initial year of high school.
-
The Oviedo line-up consists of these credentials: 5 USA Wrestling Fargo
All-Americans (Chase Gordon 2X, Joey Hefley, Erin O'Dell, Lee Wildes, and
Doug Vollaro); 2 FILA Cadet All-Americans (Ray Rowland and Jay Taylor); 2
FILA Junior All-Americans (Wildes and Taylor); and 1 Tulsa Nationals
Champion (Meeks). In addition, in the line-up is a State Champion (Gordon),
2nd State (Taylor), 3rd State (O'Dell and Vollaro), and 4 State Qualifiers
(Alpert 2X, Hefley, Rowland, and Wildes).
-
Ten underclassmen make up the 2009-10 Oviedo line-up.
-
Gordon, Hefley, Taylor, Vollaro, Wildes, and Rowland are all on pace to
break the most wins in a season held by Fraga at 51.
-
Both Taylor and Vollaro are also on track to break the team mark
for most pins in a season held by Lester at 35.
-
Oviedo has won six tournaments on the season and is 25-1 in dual matches.
-
On the season, Oviedo holds wins over these state ranked teams (by current
state rankings as of this report); 1A - #'s 1, 3, 6, 9; 2A - #'s 2, 3, 4, 5,
6; 3A - #'s 6, 8.
-
