The 4-time 3A State Champion Oviedo Men's Wrestling Team traveled to Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Florida on 13 December to compete in the 2008 Winter Park Duals Tournament. The 80 consecutive wins is the current record in Florida high school wrestling, and is the longest streak of wins in the history of Oviedo high school. Nine Oviedo wrestlers went undefeated on the day at Winter Park -- "Mini" Cooper Powell, Joey Hefley, "Big Cat" Jenkins, Justin Maziarz, Chase "Flash" Gordon, Lee Wildes, Erin "Stick" O'Dell, Davin Morris, and Jay Taylor. Pin leaders at Winter Park include Erin O'Dell and Jay Taylor, both "batting 1,000" on the day by going 4 for 4; the "Three Pins in One Day Club" boasts inductees Justin Gorinac, Justin Maziarz, Chase Gordon, Steve Jentsch, and Davin Morris. Davin Morris exemplified the term "Student/Athlete" on this Saturday, as he weighed in, left to go take the ACT college entrance exam, and then re-joined his team to wrestle the final three matches, with three wins/pins. Erin O'Dell continues to bring Velcro to the mat for each of his matches this season, as he has stuck nine opponents in nine mat reports. Wrestlers with perfect resumes thus far include Stephon Jenkins, Chase Gordon, Erin O'Dell, and Jay Taylor. As the season begins to unfold its opening covers, the team's double-digit win totals leaders have entered the fray -- Jay Taylor and Chase Gordon at 13; Joey Hefley and Justin Maziarz are close behind with 12; Ray Rowland and Davin Morris check in with 11 each; and Lee Wildes reminds everyone counting, "Hey, I've got 10 in the bank as well". Davin Morris (10), Erin O'Dell (9), and Jay Taylor (9) -- a trifecta of 28 pins in 34 matches in their line-up stretch of 160 through 189 lead the team in pins and each are on pace to challenge the team record of pins in a season held by former State Champion and USA Wrestling National Champion Kenny Lester (35).
