Boys athletes of the week: Area individual wrestling champions

Two weekends ago, the girls state weightlifting tournament produced six individual champions from Central Florida at the meet in New Port Richey.

Not to be outdone, six area competitors earned titles at the state wrestling meet last weekend in Lakeland.

Three were on Kissimmee Osceola's Class 3A state championship squad -- Joe Locksmith at 130 pounds, Alex Eggers at 152 and Levi Clemons at 171. It was Eggers' second state championship; he also captured his weight class in 2007.

Two other Osceola County wrestlers, Frank Cousins of St. Cloud and Widler Rislin of Poinciana, prevailed in the 2A meet. Cousins won at 160 pounds and Rislin prevailed at 215 pounds.

Oviedo's Chase Gordon won a 3A title at 140 pounds.

Others considered: Austin Rivers, Winter Park basketball; Corey Walden, Daytona Beach Seabreeze basketball; Orlando Parker, Orlando Christian Prep basketball; Nick Franklin, Lake Brantley baseball
