The reigning 4-time 3A State Champion Oviedo Men's Wrestling Team traveled
to Camden County High School, Georgia to participate in The Battle of the
Borders Tournament on 14-15 Dec 2007.

OVIEDO WRESTLING NOTEBOOK BULLETS
Brett Leatherman leads the team in wins at 19, followed closely by
undefeated Dustin Meloche with 18, while a trio that includes Josh Keebler,
Erin O'Dell, and Michael Alpert are at 17 each.
Jake Schalles continues his season's dominance in pinning opponents with 15
pins in his 16 wins. Brett Leatherman is close behind in the pins race at
14.
Freshman Kurt Keebler at 103 was a match from placing in this tourney,
losing only to the #2 and # 4 seeds -- he stands at 15 wins on the season,
with 11 pins in the kit bag.
Freshman Michael Alpert continues to impress as his only loss in this
tourney was to the top seed and tournament champion by a score of 8-5, while
at the same time beating the #3 seed by a 9-1 score.
Brett Leatherman, in taking third, pinned the tournament's # 2 seed in the
consolation finals.
Ty Zarbo made his Oviedo debut after sitting out the early season with an
injury and in doing so placed third, with his only loss to the #2 seed and
Florida's 2007 5th place finisher at the State Championships 8-3, and along
the way beating the #4 seed by technical fall 19-4.
Thrasher Porcher, at 140 pounds for the first time this season wrestled
impressively in taking 3rd place with his sole loss a 3-0 decision to 2007
Florida State Runner-up Mikah Fellows.
Tournament unseeded sophomore Erin O'Dell turned in the team's most
impressive performance by winning the 171 lb title. In doing so he
dispatched the tournament's #3, #2, and #1 seeds in order to claim his
individual title, to include a 7-5 win over Florida's 4th place finisher in
the 2007 State Championships, Randy May, by a score of 7-5 in the finals
match.
Junior Davin Morris, sitting on 15 wins for the season with just 4 losses,
beat the #2 seed 10-0 enroute to a third place finish.
Sophomore starters Ryan Leatherman and Chase Gordon sat out this tournament
to heal nagging injuries in prep for the nationally ranked Zac Jarzynka
Memorial Ironman Tournament VI that takes place at Oviedo high school on
28-29 Dec, a tournament that features four defending team State Champions
and four team State Runners-up amongst the field of 30 from nine states.
