To the outstanding leadership of our city government and to the great citizens
of Oviedo who are assembled here tonight, it is my distinct honor to stand
before you as a coach and spokesman on behalf of a great group of
student/athletes from Oviedo High School . In a few minutes I will introduce to
this chamber's assembled forum a group of young adults you can assuredly
earmark as leaders of tomorrow in the respective communities in which they
land. They are already leaders in what they do today to make the city of Oviedo
proud.
Before I tell you a little about our team, I want to introduce to you the
coaches who lead the Oviedo Wrestling organization. I would ask that each stand
to be recognized.
Leading our team of Wrestlerettes is Andrea Christiansen.
The wrestling coaches include JD Robbins, Wade Schalles, Hank Porcher, Paul
Christiansen, Rafael Valle, Buddy Harrison, and Chris Mathieux.
Last year we came before you as a team to mark our team's third consecutive
state wrestling championship. Tonight we are back again at your invitation to
pay honor to yet another crowning achievement, by yet another outstanding group
of young adultsfour consecutive state wrestling team titles in Florida s big
schools division.a new record in the history of Florida high school wrestling.
This past season saw Oviedo wrestling achieve new marks:
For the third consecutive year we went undefeated in dual meet competition,
running our team record for consecutive dual meet wins to 54. The previous mark
was 11.
We won a 7th consecutive Seminole Athletic Conference championship, a 6th
consecutive District title, and a 5th consecutive Region crown this past
season.
11 wrestlers (of a starting line-up comprised of 14) qualified for the State
Championship Finals in Lakeland .
11 wrestlers made the Seminole Athletic Conference All-Academic team.
Zero wrestlers received any school disciplinary actiona tribute to each and
every student in keeping the focus of being Champions both on and off the mat.
And now please let me introduce to you these outstanding student/athletes that
comprise this year's edition of the Oviedo Wrestling organization:

All-Academic Team. A National Wrestling All-American (top eight in the
country). He leads our team with a 4.125 GPA and will continue his wrestling
and education at Princeton University .
* Junior Jake Schalles, State runner-up and Seminole County All-Academic Team.
* Senior Tyler Davis, State Champion and National All-American. Also Seminole
County All-Academic Team for the 4th straight year.
* Senior Jesse Robbins, 2-time State Champion and 3-time National Champion.
This years Seminole County Wrestler of the Year. He will continue his
wrestling and education at Arizona State University .
* Brandon Hatchett, 3-time State Champion and National All-American. A Seminole
County All-Academic Team selection, as well as Central Florida s Wrestler of
the Year for a second year in a row. He is headed to Lehigh University .
