Five Counties Day One, 1-12-07

Quick info from a great day of wrestling at Fountain Valley High School here in Huntington Beach, CA. I left the gym after the 3rd and final Championship round of the tourney to bring our wrestlers back to the hotel for showers and dinner at mid-evening. There were two rounds of consolations left when I Ieft and the other team coaches were with that group. Prior to the 3rd round of Championships, Oviedo stood in 5th place. During the 3rd round, Oviedo pushed five into the quarterfinals in a great round--Tortora, Davis, Hatchett, Salerno, and Chase. In the wrestle-backs when I left (two rounds were on tap) were R. Leatherman, Porcher, Gordon, Christiansen, and Meloche. Out are B. Leatherman, Keebler, Schalles. The way this tourney works, if you lose, the opponent you lose to must make it to the quarterfinals for you to make it back to wrestle-backs. In the cases of our three who are out, the opponents they lost to lost in the match that would have sent them to the quarterfinals and would have kept our Oviedo wrestlers alive.

Well run tourney. Tough competition. Sunny skies but unusually brisk temps with a cold front that has come in over the last day or two. I'll try to get tourney info out tomorrow nite, but most likely will do upon return to Orlando Sunday evening.
