Four Oviedo wrestlers are deadlocked at 21 for most team wins on the season--freshman Ryan Leatherman, junior John Christiansen, and seniors Tyler Davis and Nic Chase. Tied for the team lead for pins at 11 each are Tyler Davis and junior Jake Schalles. Junior Brett Leatherman checks in close behind with 10 pins in his 15 wins on a 15-2 campaign thus far, for the best pin-to-win percentage on the team. Brett Leatherman led a balanced Oviedo attack that produced seven individual Champions and five placers in the tourney. Brett, a tourney three-seed, upset the returning 2A 3rd place finisher at last year's State Championships, St Cloud's Marcelo Castaneda in the semi-finals, and then dispatched crowd favorite and hometown Lake Mary wrestler, Andrew Sifakis, a 3A two-time state qualifier in the Championship match. Sifakis was the top seed as a head-to-head winner over Castaneda earlier in the season. Next up for the Oviedo Men's Wresting Team is a trip to Huntington Beach, California this weekend to compete in the nationally ranked Five Counties Tournament--the third nationally ranked tournament in the past month on the Oviedo schedule. |
