Oviedo makes resolution: No match with Brandon

A prior commitment caused the Lions to turn down the 2A program's invitation.

There will be no wrestling matchup between defending state champions Brandon
and Oviedo this season.
Oviedo declined Brandon's invitation to the Jim Graves "Beat the Streak" dual
tournament because of a prior commitment to a tournament at Lake Mary.
"We have no intentions of going to the Graves Tournament; they know that," said
Tom Coffman, the Oviedo assistant coach who declined the invitation in an
e-mail to Brandon Coach Russ Cozart on Friday night. "For him to say there's no
room on his schedule is false; I'm done dealing with them. I'm not dealing with
people like that. It's ridiculous. I just don't have time for it."
Brandon pulled out of Oviedo's Zac Jarzynka Memorial Ironman Tournament on
Wednesday because of a disagreement over the seeding process. Coffman e-mailed
Cozart on Friday, offering to bring Oviedo to Brandon for a dual meet in
January.
Cozart repeated his criticisms of the tournament in his reply, saying there was
"no substitution for a coach's meeting." Oviedo used a computer program used by
many other national wrestling tournaments to seed its tournament.
Cozart then invited Oviedo to the Graves Duals on Jan. 5-6 and said that was
Brandon's only opening.
Cozart did not return messages Saturday. Oviedo has won the past three state
titles in Class 3A, while Brandon has won six in a row in Class 2A.
