Beast of the East Tournament @ The University of Delaware on 16-17 Dec 2006
Competing at the 14th Annual Beast of the East at the University of Delaware's
Bob Carpenter Center on 16-17 Dec, the Oviedo Men's Wrestling team placed 21st
amongst 79 teams from 29 states, with a total of 665 of the top wrestlers in
the nation competing.

OVIEDO MEN'S WRESTLING NOTEBOOK BULLETS
Two-time State Champion and nationally-ranked Brandon Hatchett led the Lions
with an individual 6th place finish at The Beast. After reeling off four
consecutive wins to start the tourney, Brandon lost in the tourney semi-finals
to nationally-ranked Luke Rebertus of Caravel (DE) HS by a 1-0 score. In the
consolation semi-finals, Brandon again lost a 1-0 decision, this time to
Waynesburg (PA) HS opponent Ethan Headlee. With nagging injuries from the tough
tourney, Brandon injured defaulted his match for 5th/6th place.
Anthony Salerno won his first three matches of the tourney, knocking off the #7
seeded wrestler along the way. He finished one match away from the top eight
placement round.
Nic Chase, unseeded at this tournament went 4-2 with two pins and finished one
match short of the placement round, narrowly losing his final match by a 3-2
score to the 10th seeded wrestler. Nic beat the #8 seed in one of his wins.
Nine of the Oviedo wrestlers entered in this national-level tournament won two
or more matches.
Brandon Hatchett leads the team in wins with 14 on the season, closely followed
by Ryan Leatherman, John Christiansen, Tyler Davis, and Nic Chase at 13 each.
Justin Tortora and Anthony Salerno check in with 12 apiece.
The pin leaders at seven each include Ryan Leatherman, John Christiansen, Tyler
Davis, Jake Schalles, and Anthony Salerno.
Next on the slate for the Oviedo grapplers is the Southside Duels @ Boca Ciega
HS on 22-23 Dec, followed by its own-hosted and two years running nationally
ranked tourney, the Zac Jarzynka Memorial Ironman Tournament on 29-30 Dec that
features teams from eight states. Included in "The Zac" are five teams who were
team State Champions from four different states last season, to include this
year's nationally ranked Oviedo and Brandon teams from Florida and Bishop Lynch
from Texas.
