Eighteen members of the Oviedo Lions Men's Junior Varsity Wrestling Team
traveled to Winter Springs High School on November 19th to do battle with top
teams from Central Florida. This season kick-off event for the young Oviedo
grapplers was an early look to gauge progress on technique and conditioning. It
also served as a lid lifter for the coaching staff to tune the vocal chords,
the lower back muscles, and feet requisite for the exciting tourney season
ahead. At the end of whistle blowing, all coaches had survived, with one heard
to say, "Thank goodness wrinkles don't hurt". The Oviedo wrestlers, in their
youthful spry, came away a little less weary. Results include:
140 Chris Alvarez 0-2
112 Tony Barrows 2-2
135 Danny Bates 2-2
130 Shane Bordas 3-0, 1st Place
189 David Busck 2-2
275 Andrew Chitty 0-2
140 Danny Covelli 3-0, 1st Place
125 Justin D'Alfonso 2-2, 4th Place
103 Troy Hamlin 0-2
135 Joe Kaile 2-2
125 Josh Keebler 3-0, 1st Place
152 Daniel Larson 4-1, 3rd Place
119 Brett Leatherman 3-1, 2nd Place
171 Dustin Meloche 4-0, 1st Place, Outstanding Wrestler Heavy Weights
215 Justin Moriarty 2-2
145 Davin Morris 4-0, 1st Place
215 Nevin Place 1-2
152 Gino Stanley 2-1, 2nd Place
Much thanks to Winter Springs Head Coach Rick Tribit, his coaching staff,
parents, and supporters for a great tournament and hospitality room. As well,
thanks to the great staff of referees who manned the mats and worked with the
wrestlers to transition the learning curve in positive fashion. A great day of
wrestling.
