NARRATIVE:
The nationally ranked Oviedo Men's Wrestling Team opened the season at Ft
Pierce Central's Cobra Duals with a 5-0 dual record, winning over against
Flagler Palm Coast in the Championship Finals by a score of 43-23. The
anticipated match-up of Oviedo versus Florida's defending 1A State Team
Champion Cardinal Gibbons never materialized, as Cardinal Gibbons lost in pool
action to 3A (Florida big school) Flagler Palm Coast by a score of 31-29.
Oviedo extends its team record of consecutive dual wins to 26 amongst tough
competition.
Individual nationally ranked 160 pound Jesse Robbins did not compete in this
tourney, as he was out with stitches in his head from banging with individually
national ranked 189 pound David Green this week at practice.
Varsity wrestler Josh Keebler went down early in the competition with an ankle
injury. He'll be back soon as a gamer.
Next up for the Oviedo Men's Wrestling Team is the Walsh Jesuit Ironman
Tournament in Ohio, the nation's top high school tournament for the past
several years, and this year maybe the toughest high school in the history of
high school wrestling by accounts of the wrestling experts.
Let it snow in Ohio so we get the full effect! |
